Name:
(could be an alias)
Birth Place:
Honaker, Virginia
Bio:

Dave was born in Honaker Virginia which if you don’t know is a very very small town. Dave attended and eventually graduated Honaker High School in 1995. Dave was unsure what he wanted to do after high school.  Dave says “Honaker was a small town and there were no sewers to clean so I thought hey what about radio.” Radio indeed! Dave began his radio career at South West Virginia Community College on the campus radio.  Dave was an instant hit on campus radio and all 3 listeners said they would rather listen to Dave than the normal dead silence. Dave finally landed a job at WRIC (then 100.7 classic rock) where he met Rocky Smith.  Dave started on the midday shift and eventually was promoted to morning show where he got the honor of getting up at 4:30 in the morning!! Oh and he did a morning show with Rocky. Dave worked radio for quite some time before moving to Virginia Beach to become a computer technician for Gateway.  After Gateway realized they had hired a former DJ they asked Dave to pack up his gear and head back home. Then after returning home Dave then teamed up with two friends Barry, and Rodney and started OnPoint Inc. which believe it or not is actually still around today!! Dave missed radio though, and when Matt Hankins decided to step down as WRIC’s play by play announcer for Blue Tornado Football, he sabotaged the hiring process and after getting rid of anyone that had any talent he was awarded the position. So in 2001 Dave Mann was back on the airwaves,  now it has been 6 years and nearly 100 games. Dave worked with Gerald Stacy for most of those years, Gerald then took a job afar and Dave knew exactly who to call, that’s right Fox’s own Joe Buck. Joe couldn’t do it so Dave called Rocky Smith. The two began announcing games late last season and even covered the big state title game as well.  Dave who still considers himself a Tiger (Honaker you know) is a true blue fan! “I look forward to this season” Dave says, “Being on TV other than that incident with the FCC, has been my dream.” When not in a press box that is 103 degrees, Dave enjoys spending time with his son Stephen Joseph (you will figure out where he got that name in a second, just keep reading) working on and with computers, playing NCAA 03,04,05,06,07,08 (you get the picture) and spending time with his loved ones. Like Rocky, Dave is an avid football fan and is a Notre Dame, Florida State fan , as for the pros Dave is a die hard, 100% 49er fan! (now you see where his son’s name comes from) Dave can’t wait for this season to get underway and also looks forward to working with his radio partner Rocky Smith. Dave says “This is going to be a fun season for sure, as long as Rocky stays way from all the buttons.”
